\\Tough love moment: Jesus didn’t pay it all for you to push him away
Look out, ladies. Tough love moment: Jesus didn’t pay it all for you to push him away because you feel unworthy. THERE. I said it.
Okay, now I promise I’m going to be nice and build you up from here on out. Let’s start with a verse…
“Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” Luke 12:27
They neither toil nor spin and yet they still grow… How many of us can truly say that we neither toil nor spin? Do we toil in our own strength to be Christ-like and grow in faith and knowledge only to feel defeat at the first sign of sin, frustration, or lack of discipline?
I have! Every moment of anger or frustration… Each moment I thought that I should be praying but wasn’t… or every time I would skip church was written off as utter and total failure. I felt unworthy to the point of thinking why even try? Life was a tightrope balancing act for me.
It is similar to believing we can gain Christ’s righteousness by favor or works. The if I do or don’t do this or that God will or won’t be pleased with me mentality that defined my decisions.
Let me ask you a question though: is doing the “right” thing, whether that’s praying or doing a good deed what you should be doing if your heart isn’t in it? If you are just going through the motions? Or should you be focusing on your relationship with the Lord and aligning your heart with his? I wrote a little bit about this in a previous blog post where I looked at Romans 2:29 and what Paul meant by circumcision of the heart. The story of Mary and Martha is also a great lesson to look at in regards to discerning what we should pour our energy into. I’d encourage you to read those posts to supplement to this one! But mainly…
I want to remind you today that YOU ARE without a doubt GOD’s RIGHTEOUSNESS. 💞
You are God’s righteousness even when you don’t feel you look the part. Or act the part. Or are the part in any way, shape, or form. The moment you said “I believe” is the very moment God saw you through eyes of grace.
Paul didn’t say you gained righteousness in Christ after you believed… with a sub clause of “you have to do a, b, and c to keep that righteousness.” No, ma’am. Instead he said in Romans 3:22, “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.”
…That’s it. That’s the verse. No ifs, ands, or buts. Righteousness belongs to those who BELIEVE. There are no sneaky subclauses. You don’t need to follow any kind of rules in order to keep your righteousness. 💞
The crazy thing about grace is that it is RADICAL, UNLIMITED, and FREE.
Jesus didn’t say IT IS FINISHED for you to feel so unworthy that you push him away. He said IT IS FINISHED so that you can live a life of freedom defined by redemption and grace.
The next time you feel discouraged… remember the lilies. The Lord provides for their needs and they bloom without thinking, “I’m trying to grow!” They just do. Remember that the Lord is good and he provides for your needs. You can bloom in Christ… but first, let go of feelings of imperfection and unworthiness. You are the reason Christ paid it all. Accept the gift of grace as it is: radical, unlimited, FREE. There is no need for perfection when we are in Christ.
Luke 12:28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!
